13 uses of aluminum foil that you don’t know

Aluminum foil is present in all kitchens in Spain. It can be considered a must-have item. It is generally used to wrap sandwiches or to preserve some foods once opened. It is also used when making certain preparations such as roast potatoes or en papillote fish, for example.

These are the most frequent utilities that the aluminum foil, also known as silver foil or plastic wrap. But there are also other uses that are less known, but that are just as interesting. Once you discover them, you will realize that you have not gotten all the desired performance out of this product.

Believe it or not, it can be a great tool for both cleaning and sharpening sharp objects.

What other uses can be given to aluminum foil?

We discover some of the uses that can be given to aluminum foil and that are very rare.

  1. Keep food and drinks warm: A good idea to keep your sandwich or coffee warm is to wrap it in aluminum foil. This material has the peculiarity that it retains high temperatures for longer.
  2. End frizzy hair: To put an end to your frizz, you just need to cut out a piece of Albal paper and run it through your hair. Is It is important that you do it from the roots to the tips. And, above all, for best results, you should do it in sections. This way, it will last much longer than if you only pass it through the top layer of your hair.
  3. Get rid of stubborn dirt: After many uses, it is common for grease and dirt to accumulate on the base of a frying pan or pot. Silver paper is presented as a good solution to eliminate these remains as long as the object is able to withstand abrasion. To do this you will only have to crumple a piece of paper and use it as if it were a scouring pad. You would have to rub with some care so as not to damage the item.
  4. Keep the oven clean: Sometimes it is very difficult to keep the oven clean. It is common that during cooking it ends up staining due to spilled liquid or splashes from the recipe. To prevent this from happening, it would be enough to line the base of the oven, the rack or the tray with aluminum foil. This way, instead of cleaning the oven every time you use it, you only have to remove the paper once you have finished using it.
  5. Polish the silver: If you notice that your silver objects or cutlery have lost some shine, you may be able to restore it with the help of silver paper. You just need to line a pot with this paper and fill it with cold water and a couple of teaspoons of salt. Place the objects you want to treat inside and leave them inside for about three minutes. Once that time has passed, you will only have to rinse and dry.
  6. Jewelry Cleaning: It is common for jewelry to also become stained with use. As it is a special material, you would have to be somewhat careful with its cleaning so that there is no room for possible deterioration. What we will do is line a container with aluminum foil, fill it with hot water and put a tablespoon of laundry detergent. It must be powder and not liquid. We will leave the jewelry in this formula for a minute, and when the time has passed we will rinse it and let it air dry.
  7. Sharpen scissors: A home remedy to sharpen scissors is to cut a piece of aluminum foil, fold it into a few layers and with the cut we make on it they will become sharper.
  8. Remove rust: There are many surfaces that rust over the years, and in reality they manage to give a very bad image. To avoid this, you can use a ball of aluminum foil and rub it with it.
  9. Cleaning the iron: If the base of your iron has traces of fabric or other types of dirt, you can easily clean it with the help of this type of paper that you may have in your kitchen.
  10. Make a funnel: To transfer a liquid from one container to another, you can make an improvised funnel with this material.
  11. Save soap: You may have never realized that the bar of soap usually dissolves quite easily while it remains in the soap dish. If we wrap it in this paper when not in use, the aluminum foil will prevent the soap from dissolving.
  12. Keep bananas fresh: With high temperatures or when bananas remain in our fruit bowl for a long time, they end up turning black, losing the yellow color that characterizes them. That’s because they rust quite easily. But this process can be slowed down if we cover the end of the stem with aluminum foil. Do the test at home and you will see the good results you will get.
  13. Helps plants grow: If you have ever tried to grow seeds in front of a window, you may have noticed that the young stems rise towards the light source. What interests us is that they grow straight. To do this you have to get a cardboard box and cut the top and one side. The remaining part will be lined with aluminum foil and the young plants will be placed inside, with the open side of the box facing the window.
