Magenta: what tone is it and how to combine the color of the year

As every year, Pantone Color Institute (a company recognized worldwide as a trend leader in color ranges) has provided the forecast of the global color trends that will dominate over the next 365 days.

Pantone provides color standard customization, brand identity, and product color advisory services, as well as making selections related to color psychology.

Last Friday the company announced that the color of the year 2023 is magenta, specifically Live Magenta (Pantone 18-1750)an “unconventional tone for an unconventional era,” those responsible for the selection have noted.

With this selection, Pantone creates a universal color language that helps brands and manufacturers make decisions about choosing shades in clothing, accessories, textile designs and other objects. More than ten million producers and designers rely on Pantone’s services and its work to describe, control and communicate colors.

According to experts, it is a “red brave and fearless, lively, who encourages experimentation and self-expression without restrictions“. A nuanced crimson that shows the balance between warm and cold tones while being “assertive but not aggressive.”

However, when it comes to describing it, there are those who, when they hear magenta, speak of red and there are those who think of pink or purple. What is the ‘Viva Magenta 18-1750’? For the layman, It is a tone between deep pink and maroon.

Now, you may ask yourself: “How do I combine this color? How do I take it to my personal terrain?” It is indeed an unconventional color, so it may seem difficult to combine, but nothing could be further from the truth.

A top in this color along with white suit pants can be the ideal option for an office day. Another choice could be a total black look with a blazer and some shoes in Viva Magenta.

The reality is that the options are endless. You could even combine it with some more striking shades, such as red, purple and fuchsia pink, instead of using neutral tones. This is something you already did Carolina Herrera at their show for the Fall/Winter 2022 season during New York Fashion Week.

In addition to this, there are many other firms that have included magenta in their proposals for the winter and spring/summer seasons. You can include garments of this color in your personal selection from Lefties, Hortensia Maesto, KOAHARI, Celia B, Mustang and ZOTTIER among many others.
