Non-Vital Tooth Whitening: An aesthetic solution
A pigmented tooth can be very annoying for the patient, it can occur in a tooth with Endodontics.
Teeth are made up of three elements: enamel, dentin and pulp. A Non-Vital Tooth is one that does not have pulp (where blood vessels and nerves are found), as a result of trauma or cavities.. When a tooth darkens, it is because the internal part has changed color due to lack of blood supply, either due to Endodontics or Root Canal Treatment or caused by the presence of Necrotic Pulp Tissue. Non-Vital Tooth Whitening is the technique used to whiten teeth that no longer have a living nerve..
This procedure is performed when you want to lighten the color of a tooth that has Endodontics or Root Canal Treatment.. Before resorting to Non-Vital Tooth Whitening, a detailed review must be carried out to determine that the root canal is in good condition.
Procedure
Non-Vital Tooth Whitening can be done in two ways:
- In the office with several sessions
- Placement of the whitening material inside the tooth and with weekly checks
For both cases, the Resin or Definitive Restoration that the tooth has is removed, the pulp chamber is cleaned and then the material is placed inside the tooth..
When performed in the office, the Soft Tissues must be protected with a gingival barrier and the necessary time is waited with the material according to the indications of the material used. Finally, it is removed and a temporary paste is placed. The color is reviewed at the next appointment to determine if the patient needs further sessions.
It is worth mentioning that this procedure is not recommended when the Endodontics is not in optimal conditions, whether due to an Apical Injury, pain or there is some type of resorption.
Aftercare
After Non-Vital Tooth Whitening, it is recommended not to eat hard or sticky foods to prevent the temporary paste that is placed at each appointment from falling off. In addition, the consumption of drinks such as wine, coffee and tea should be moderated.
