They warn of the presence of histamine in cans of tuna from two Spanish brands

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has warned of the presence of histamine in canned tuna in sunflower oil from two Spanish brands. Aesan has been made aware of this incident through the health authorities of La Rioja and it is known that the affected products have been distributed in the Community of Valencia, although it is not ruled out that they have also reached other Spanish communities.

Specifically, these are canned tuna in sunflower oil from the Montey and Didilo brands. They come in 1 kilo cans and the affected lot number is L03922JC with an expiration date of February 8, 2027.

The manufacturer has already reported that it is going to withdraw the affected products from the market, but the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition recommends that people who have cans from the affected batch at home refrain from consuming them and return them to the point of purchase.

As explained by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), histamine is a natural toxic substance that is produced in fish when certain bacteria proliferate. The appearance of histamine is due to bacterial contamination, loss of freshness of the fish, poor conservation at inappropriate temperatures, or failures in hygiene and handling.

If you eat a food with high levels of histamine, you may experience symptoms similar to those of an allergic reaction, such as itching, inflammation, discomfort, or headache. The OCU warns that histamine poisoning can be dangerous.
